Hub Pages is an open content site where users can submit articles, videos, and images.  It is owned by YieldBuild, Inc, and refers to itself as “the leading online publishing ecosystem.”  Authors are referred to as “Hubbers” and articles are called “hubs.”

Once a hub is posted, its potential ad revenue is based around its hub score, a number between 1 and 100 that is a representation of how much traffic the hub has received, how many comments it has, and how many readers have click on the ads.  Higher scores are better, and an author also receives a hub score which is derived from the average score of their overall body of work.  Hub scores for both authors and articles are considered status symbols among the very active Hub Pagescommunity.  Ad revenue is monitored and managed through Adsense - Hub Pages itself does not pay.

Ironically, one of the major downsides of Hub Pagesis the community.  Many “Hubbers” choose to place pornographic or hate material in their hubs, and there are plenty of Hubs that are just x-rated galleries or mindless rants against various ethnic groups, countries, or lifestyles.  Similarly, many of the “Hubbers” feel no shame in writing profanity, threats, or other hate speech as comments on other member’s Hubs.  Of course there are good members who contribute lovely content, however their presence isn’t enough to save Hub Pages as a worthwhile community.

Furthermore, making any worthwhile money on Hub Pagesis an extremely difficult task, since it is run by Adsense and you need at least $100 to receive an Adsense payout.

The Bottom Line: Don’t waste your effort - if you want to contribute to an open content/ad revenue system you are much better off checking out eHow or Associated Content.
