YES! Freelancing is AWESOME!

My name is Nacie Carson, and I am a professional freelance writer. I am a 9-5 refugee who started freelancing full time in 2008. The first year I was writing was a HUGE learning experience: I had to figure out how to find clients, organize my time, pay my bills, do my taxes, and navigate the tricky waters of rate negotiation…and figure these things out fast!

Luckily, I found a group of experienced freelancers kind enough to take me under their wing (Hi Deb! Hi Jodee!) and show me the ropes with patience and unending support. Thanks to them, I was able to thrive in this world of words.

Their kindness, openness, and honesty about the “biz” inspired me to create WantToFreelance, a community-based resource for freelancers at all stages of their careers.

While the instinct in today’s economy is to circle the wagons and fight for each scrap of work, I know that together we can get much farther than any one of us can alone. By sharing our knowledge and skills with each other, we elevate not only our own potential but also the potential of our craft and industry.
